If everything in the whole world was beige
And stored in plastic cubes
By colorblind elephants
Still you, my love,
Would swim backwards against the tide
Your heart born aloft by black elephants, gliding
Effortlessly against the pull of the sea.
If the world were filled with bicyclists gone mad
And monkeys riding red unicycles
You still, my love,
Would gaze and smile at the clouds
Like a beautiful, mindless bird.
If the earth is really a shooting star
Hurtling headlong into despair
You still, my love,
Would have a laugh like shattered glass
To fill up yellow balloons and scatter across the universe.
If what we have in truth will last forever
Preserved and mummified in a secret sarcophagus
Surrounded by cats, cobwebs, and a chemical smell
These hearts will defy the laws of gravity
Soaring up like a rocket miracle.
